Built by the firm of  Luftschiffbau Zeppelin, the two sister ships LZ-129 Hindenburg and LZ-130 Graff Zeppelin II, were, and still are, the largest flying machines ever to take to the air.

Approximately as long as three 747s end to end, Hindenburg was just 78 feet shorter than the Titanic. Powered by four 1,200 hp engines, Hindenburg cruised at 80 mph.

Launched in 1936, LZ-129 made 17 Trans-Atlantic flights, 10 to the United States and 7 to Brazil, before she was destroyed by fire attempting a landing at Lakehurst, New Jersey at 7:25 pm, May 6th 1937.
