This drawing, represents what is most certainly the most famous rifle of the old west - the first generation, first variety, 24" octagonal barrel Winchester Model of 1873.
In the five decades of production, Winchester made almost three quarters of a million of them in three basic versions; a 24" round or octagon barrel rifle, a 20" round barrel carbine and a 30" round barrels musket. They continued to be extraordinarily popular, in spite of its price of $19.50, until production was ended in 1923
