Lotus Ford 49B Graham Hill 1968 World Champion - Spanish Grand Prix
This limit edition art print represents
the Lotus Ford 49B, in its Gold Leaf Team Lotus livery, driven by Graham Hill,
as it appeared winning the Spanish Grand Prix at Jarama Circuit, Madrid, Spain,
12 May 1968.
Designed by Colin Chapman and Maurice
Philippe for the 1967 season, the ‘49 immediately proved winning ready, with Jim
Clark taking four of the eleven GPs, and Team Lotus taking second place in the
Constructor’s Championship.
In 1968, with the ‘49B, Hill and Clark won five of the twelve
GPs, making Team Lotus Constructors Champion and Hill World Champion.
It was at the ’68 Spanish Grand Prix
that the Gold Leaf Team Lotus livery first appeared and the last time a Lotus
car would be seen without wings – Chapman introduced modest wings at the next
race; Monaco.
The Lotus Ford 49B went on to place
third in 1969 and winning the Constructors Chanpionship again in 1970; this time
with Jochen Rindt and Emerson Fittipaldi, and with Rindt winning the Drivers
Championship as well.
