Williams Renault FW14B 1992 Formula 1 World Champion - Mexican Grand Prix
This limit edition art print represents
Nigel Mansell's Williams Renault FW14B in its livery at the Mexican Grand Prix, at Autodromo
Hermanos Rodriguez, Mexico City, 22 March 1992.
Designed by Adrian
Newey for the 1991 & 92 seasons, the FW14B was a considerable improvement over
the original FW 14.
Newey redesigned the carbon fibre and honeycomb
composite car from scratch, improved the gearbox and active suspension, and
powered it with the Renault 3.5 liter V-10.
The 49B was undoubtedly the most technically
sophistically of that seasons cars and turned out to be a winner as well, coming
in second in the Constructor’s Championship.
In 1992, in the hands of Nigel Mansell
and Ricardo Patrese, the FW14B simply outclassed and outran the field, with
Patrese winning one GP and Mansell winning nine!, leaving Berger, Senna and
Schumacher to pick up the rest.
Williams won the
Constructors Championship and Mansell won the Drivers Championship.
It is of interest to note that Nigel Mansell is the
only man to hold the Formula 1 Drivers Championship and the CART Championship at
the same time.
In CART he drove for Newman Hass.
