Senna's McLaren Honda MP-4/4 1988 F1 World Champion Japanese Grand Prix
This limit edition art print represents the McLaren Honda MP4/4 as it appeared on 30 October, 1988; driven by Aryton Senna.
The MP 4/4 was
the culmination of all Team McLaren’s hopes, dreams and efforts.
In the 1988 Formula 1 season, it made all the other
cars look positively ordinary.
In the hands of Senna, and teammate Alain Prost,
the 4/4 won all but one of the season’s 16 races, and went on to become perhaps
the most dominate F1 car in history.
It was in this car that Senna clinched
the 1988 Formula 1 World Championship at Suzuka Circuit, Japan – the 15th, and
penultimate, race of the season.
Designed by
Gordon Murray and Steve Nichols, the McLaren Honda MP 4/4 was a carbon-fibre honeycomb
monocoque holding a Honda RA168-E 1,492cc, 80 degree V-6, engine mounted
longitudinally, and mated to a McLaren 6 speed manual transmission.
Aspiration was by 2 IHI Turbochargers.
Power was 900 bhp / 671 KW.
With the car weighing just 1190.5 pounds, that
meant that there was roughly the power of one horse for every 2.2 pounds!
