Steamboat Robt. E. Lee - Monarch of the Mississippi

This limited edition art print represents the Steamboat
Robert E Lee, known as the Monarch of the Mississippi, as she appeared on
September 30th,
1882, the day she caught fire near Yucatan Plantation, Louisiana.
Robert E. Lee was built at New Albany, Indiana in 1866 by Hill, Roberts & Co.
She was one of the finest steamboats ever to ply the mighty Mississippi.
Designed as a
6,000 bale boat, Lee cost $200,000.00 to construct.
In 1870 she won the famous steamboat race against
the Natchez, covering the 1,154 miles from St Louis to New Orleans in 3 days, 18
hours and 14 minutes, a record that stood until eclipsed by a motorboat in 1929.
The beautiful boat was 285 feet in length and had a 46 foot beam.
