Production of the 1,500 hp diesel-electric F7s began at GM's La Grange, Illinois plant in February of 1949.  In all, 2,366 cab-equipped "A" units and 1,483 "B" units were delivered, before production ended in December of 1953.

UP Number 1464, the cab and booster illustrated here, was delivered to the Union Pacific Railroad in April, 1952.  It was technically a rebuilt wrecked F3B, upgraded to the F7 specifications, and renumbered 1464.
